The architecture of Spanish Springs
I took this photo because I liked the contrast between the building and the nature surrounding it; and the colors.

You can find a great deal of information about Ms. Rawlings online, but you should know that she wrote a number of books, the most famous of which was The Yearling, a story of a very poor family trying to eke out a living in central Florida. This book brought Ms. Rawlings the Pulitzer Prize and was made into a movie in 1946. The movie, which starred Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman (Ronald Reagan's first wife), was filmed on location in Florida.
On her property in Cross Creek, she raised oranges and did her writing. In her heyday, famous politicians, movie stars and other celebrities visited her in Cross Creek, often staying in her spare bedroom.
There remains a small orange grove on her property to this day.

The Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings homestead
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is most famous for her book, The Yearling. Ms. Rawlings spent a number of years in central Florida, in the small town of Cross Creek. It was here, in a relatively humble home, that she did her writing and raised oranges.
We will be posting a variety of photos depicting her homestead at Cross Creek over the next few days. The property has been designated a Florida state park.
