Train station at Sumter Landing

This is another "Disney" touch. There are no trains. One can't have a "hometown," however, without a train station. Ergo, the folks in charge built an "old" train station. It's very nice, though.

Homes and waterways - Naples, Florida

If you can afford it, it doesn't get much better than this. Naples is on Florida's Southwest Coast, a beautiful city. This scene features a waterway just inland from the Gulf of Mexico and close to an upscale shopping center.

Dancing in the Town Square at Sumter Landing

Both of The Villages' Hometowns offer music and dancing in their town squares just about every night of the year. People come to listen, dance, watch, and you can buy your favorite beverages, too. Some of the bands and singers are excellent!

Hurricane damage

Not too long ago, this was a functioning pier and shack. But one of the hurricanes that blew through Cedar Key ended that. Now, it sits forlornly on the water, a broken reminder of what used to be.

Bench at Florida National Cemetery

Florida National Cemetery is a U.S. veteran's cemetery located amid the rolling hills of Bushnell, Florida. It is a beautiful and appropriate site to honor Florida's veterans of the Armed Forces. You can see a few stone markers in the background.

Looking for little fishes or?

This young lad is vacationing with his parents at a resort on the Gulf of Mexico, across from the Cedar Key dock area.

Sunset over Spanish Springs

This beautiful photo by Lois Anne pictures the sun setting over the Hometown of Spanish Springs. The majority of people living in The Villages get around via golf carts.

Lighthouse/Restaurant

The two "hometown" areas of The Villages are Disney-like creations, their ambiance designed specifically to provide various experiences. For example, Sumter Landing is on a small lake. The wooden pier and walkways, stores and restaurants, lights, and all the other trappings let you feel like they've been there forever and they developed over time.

Thus, the lighthouse at Sumter Landing has no real function. It is decoration. But beautiful decoration. It is also a restaurant and bar.

Disney-esque though it all be, it is still beautiful and a delightful place to spend a warm evening with the one you love.

Interior - Community Church in Spanish Springs

The Community Church in Spanish Springs (courtyard photo yesterday) is non-denominational and serves not only as a worship center but as a center for community events such as concerts. It is a beautiful building, inside and out.
