The Redneck Country Club

The Redneck Country Club, an excellent country/western group, were playing in the Spanish Springs town square. Great music; great fun. They performed all the old standards and more. On one cover of a Willie Nelson tune, you could close your eyes and swear that was Willie himself singing!

Harp concert at Spanish Springs Church on the Square

The other evening as we were wandering about Spanish Springs, a country band was playing in the square, people were dancing and everyone was having a good time.

We came upon the Church on the Square. Lois Anne wanted to take some exterior pictures, so I thought I'd go inside and grab some shots of the nave and altar areas. To my surprise, I found a harp concert in progress.

As I quietly entered the nave through a side door, the change was dramatic - from loud country music to the soft strains of a harp playing "Stardust."

This is what it looked like.

Community Church - Spanish Springs

Overlooking the beach at Ormond Beach

Backing up to the bay

I'm posting this to show a not unusual house in Cedar Key. It fronts on the main drag into town, but has this long, narrow back yard, the end of which comes close to the waters of the back bay.

Notice the fish cleaning station on the right, the barbecue grill on the left and the picnic table.

Hard to beat that set-up!

Junk shop

You could probably find almost anything you'd like at this little shop on Highway 301 in Citra, Florida.

St. Mark the Evangelist - under construction

A new Roman Catholic Church under construction in The Villages, St. Mark the Evangelist. We think it will be quite striking when completed.

Another abandoned house with dish

We found this house deep in the woods of North Central Florida. It has been abandoned and appears that no one has lived there for some time. Like a similar house we posted a few weeks ago, this one also has a dish in the yard. Go figure.

The Salon Professional Academy

Located just off Highway 466 in The Villages, this is where you might wish to go to learn how to be a professional hair dresser. There also appears to be a full-service salon on the premises, which allows students to learn by doing.

Old Florida II

At Gore's Landing, near Fort McCoy. Picture, if you can, Seminole Indians in a canoe gliding silently up the river, an alligator lying perfectly still on the bank, a heron fishing with stilted patience in the shallows...the only sound coming from an occasional bird high in the trees...
