At Gore's Landing, near Fort McCoy. Picture, if you can, Seminole Indians in a canoe gliding silently up the river, an alligator lying perfectly still on the bank, a heron fishing with stilted patience in the shallows...the only sound coming from an occasional bird high in the trees...

Abandoned fish farm

Located at the intersection of two country roads in the forest, this fish farm has seen better days. I have no clue what kind of fish it farmed or why, but obviously it hasn't done any fish farming for some time!

You'll find this beautifully restored home just a block from the main beach in Cedar Key.

Old Florida

Some parts of Florida look very much like they did hundreds of years ago. This is one of them...at a place called Gore's Landing, near Fort McCoy. We'll post a couple of more photos of Gore's Landing in the coming days.

I think it is the reflections in the water that make this picture jump.

High noon and an empty parking lot

This parking lot serves a beautiful office building in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The photo was taken at high noon on a regular work day. The building stands mostly empty as does the parking lot. Another, similar building across the way is filled to capacity as is its parking lot.

It's an enigma; perhaps explained by the downturn in the economy.

Old factory?

We found this place down a side road in Summerfield, Florida. At first we thought it was an abandoned school, but then concluded it was probably an old factory of some sort. The property was fenced, gated and locked up, so we couldn't get close. There is some writing at the top of the building, but we were not able to make it out.

Rather a spooky place just sitting there going to ruin.

Shooting into the sun created a lens flare.

Temple Shalom - The New Jewish Congregation

About nine years ago, The New Jewish Congregation was formed, evolving from a Jewish social club in The Villages. In 2005, groundbreaking was held for the construction of a new temple, and regular Shabbat services were first held in 2007.

The building is very attractive and I've heard it is quite beautiful inside. I'm hoping to photograph the interior in the near future.

Sailing gear

Padua

You're looking at the entrance to Padua Stables, a state of the art thoroughbred horse training and breeding facility located in Summerfield, Florida, south of Ocala. It consists of over 770 acres and is absolutely gorgeous!

It appears that the facility is on the market for $35 million USD.

Watching the ducks, chewing the fat

As the day comes to a close, a few folks in golf cars putt-putt to the pond in Spanish Springs to watch the ducks and relax with friends.

Gulf Side Motel pier

It's a great place to fish and a perfect place (during part of the year) to watch the fabled Cedar Key sunsets. Use of this pier is one of the perks of staying at the Gulf Side Motel (see previous post here).
