Staying out of the sun

Skin cancer is a huge and growing problem in Florida. Smart residents and visitors know enough to stay out of the sun!

Post Office in East Lake Weir

Micanopy, Florida mini-alley

Micanopy is a tiny town south of Gainesville in north central Florida, noted for its antiques and its once per year art/crafts festival. I took this photo for the colors - it's merely a space between two building.

The Sea Breeze and dock area

The street winds around a semi-circle that is the dock area, which juts out into the Gulf of Mexico. The building on the left is the Sea Breeze, a funky restaurant we've enjoyed for over 20 years.

Below is the same photo with a sketch effect.

Radio station at Sumter Landing

Both of The Villages Hometowns have their own radio stations. This is the one in Sumter Landing, located across from the town square on Lake Sumter.

About twenty years ago, I took this photo at the Epcot Center at Disney World in Orlando. Then put a little frame around it.

Cedar Key Canal

Cedar Key is built on salt marshes with several canals running through it. This is one of the larger canals.

Recreation center/bowling alley

I've never been in this building, which is just across a small lake (pond?) from the Spanish Springs hometown in The Villages, but I believe it serves as a recreation center and bowling alley. The photo shows the back of the building.

The Waterfront Inn - Sumter Landing

The Waterfront Inn is in the Sumter Landing Home Town and situated on the shores of the lakefront. This photo was taken on a warm spring night just as the sun closed out the day.

Sunset at Cedar Key

Cedar Key has some of the most beautiful sunsets in Florida. When the water is calm and the weather is warm, this kind of scene is created.

Cedar Key harbor

Cedar Key is a small fishing village that juts out into the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida. This photo shows the harbor area between the mainland and the dock area, the latter being a semi-circular area with fishing pier, restaurants, and numerous shops.

Over the years, hurricanes have wreaked havoc in Cedar Key, but the town is resilient and has bounced back. The famous fishing pier was taken out in the last hurricane but is currently being rebuilt bigger and stronger.
