A lonely bench in Lake Sumter Landing

A good foundation is a good place to begin again

"They" say a good foundation is the most important thing - in all areas of life. You remember those little pep talks: "Study hard now so you can build a good foundation for later in life."

Well, there's more to it. Sometimes, a storm or a wrecking ball shows up to make our life a mess. All we have left is the foundation.

Which means the pundits were both right and wrong: A good foundation doesn't mean you won't get blown away; but it also gives you a place to start anew.

At anchor ... as the sun sets

Seven Wishes Farm - central Florida

It's a horse farm, so I'm guessing they're wishing a horse of theirs would win the Kentucky Derby and at least six other races.

Cell phone tower at dusk - Lake Sumter Landing

The "jungle" that is Rainbow Springs

Cross Creek - The setting for Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings home

These first photos show the bridge over Cross Creek and the area around the very small town of Cross Creek.  This is where The Yearling restaurant is located and is a couple of miles from Rawling's home.

The last two photos were taken on Rawling's property.

A fine singer - Lake Sumter Landing

Do you think she was watching me take her picture?

Florida flora at Rainbow Springs...

To rest your weary bones...

...feel those cool, ocean breezes!
