Get your hair cut here!

In Spanish Springs there is a barber/stylist anxious to get your business. I'm surprised the shop was allowed to put their sign on the sidewalk. Seems a bit like littering and could cause loitering!

The prices seem reasonable. But why does it cost more to cut a woman's hair than to cut a man's hair? Something is wrong with that picture. And what meaneth the word, "beauty"? Maybe the women get a hair cut and a beauty treatment?

A laughing Buddha - plus flowers & beads

This delightful statue was found in Cassadaga, the Florida spiritualist camp.

The Seabreeze Cupola

I really didn't know what to call this. Cupola seems to fit. I've never seen anyone up there, though.

The Seabreeze is an old-timey restaurant on the Dock...we've been going there for at least 20 years. The food is decent and the view can't be beat.

Golf car gathering

They drive in from their gated communities to gather at the Spanish Springs town square where they can partake of 2 for 1 drinks, listen to good music and dance the night away.

Many of them park their golf cars here.

Ocklawaha Hardware

Ocklawaha is a little bitty town with one stoplight. But it borders Lake Weir. Which means it gets a lot of traffic and there are many homes built close to the shore. A good hardware store is a necessity and a blessing, and Ocklawaha has a good hardware store where you can find almost anything you might need. Naturally, it's called Ocklawaha Hardware.

I had a little fun playing with the colors.

The Rusty Rim & Coconuts

You've seen this place in a number of shots previously, but not from this angle. For years, The Rusty Rim was known as The Captain's Table, and we celebrated anniversaries and birthdays there...

Time changes everything, it is said, and so The Captain's Table is no more. In its place is The Rusty Rim (upstairs) and Coconuts (downstairs). We've not patronized either as yet, but will before long and we'll let you know as to ambiance and food quality.

Waiting at the theater

Both the Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter Landing downtowns have nice theaters. I spotted this lady waiting at the Spanish Springs theater. I don't know if she had seen a movie and was waiting for a ride home, or if she was waiting for someone to join her for a theatrical presentation.

Whatever the situation, it's a comfortable place to wait.

Fishing on the new pier

You will find people of all ages enjoying the new pier at Cedar Key. I'm not sure they catch many fish, but they seem to like trying.

Cassadaga - Part 2

On a hot, sunny day at Cassadaga, the spiritualist camp, this is just the spot to unwind after you've had a session with a psychic or a medium.

If you desire to have a reading, you might visit this house, the home of the medium, Anita Evans.

Located across from the Cassadaga Hotel, you can meditate and stretch your mind in this small garden which is watched over by a beautiful maiden.

And, before you leave, you will want to purchase some books and other items to assist you in your spiritualist endeavors.

Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp

Welcome Center and book store

Signs of possibilities

Places to buy things and rest and read

The Cassadaga Hotel

The Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp is located just south of Deland, in central Florida. It has a relatively long history, which I won't go into here, but is still going strong.

We found it a fascinating place, and as noted yesterday, the people we met were warm and welcoming. It had a good "spirit" about it, if I can use that word.

More photos tomorrow.

And you can read all about it on their official website here.

Staircase in Spanish Springs

I love staircases. I photograph most every staircase I find. I liked this one because of the graceful, curving lines and how the early evening light hits the upper portion of the buildings.

It leads to offices on the second floor of this building. It is to be found in the Spanish Springs hometown. I'll probably post more staircases in the future.

Cedar Key sculpture

It should be obvious to all upon looking at this beautiful sculpture that great works of art are not to be found only in Europe and New York City! Just consider the beautiful lines of this work. And it's in Florida! In Cedar Key! On the dock!

Waiting on the corner, watching all the cars go by...

I know that title is not how the song goes, but this gentleman was not watching the girls go by, he was looking for his spouse, who he had last seen, I think, across the street in the Spanish Springs town square where people were dancing up a storm and Happy Hour (2 for 1 drinks) was underway.

His wait was rewarded. After a few minutes, he spied her, waved, and ran across the street where I'd like to say he swept her into his arms, but he didn't do that; he just smiled and nodded and they went off with another couple.

Lizard littered red bench and Neno Award

We found this bright red bench which was momentarily occupied by a friendly little lizard in Cassadaga, Florida. Cassadaga is a well-known Spiritualist camp, inhabited by all kinds of wonderful folks, including psychics and mediums.

We will be showing more of the camp in the next couple of days.

We were delighted today to receive this beautiful award from Cheryl at NOSTALGIA: Today and Yesterday.

Cheryl has a very special blog with wonderful photos and commentary and we would urge everyone to pay her a visit.

The Neno Award is given to those who love blogging, love to encourage friendships through blogging, and who help others seek the reasons why we all love blogging.

Thank you again, Cheryl, for this honor bestowed upon us.

Hear At Last

It isn't any secret that some of us, as we grow older, find that we don't hear so well anymore. We need help. Hear At Last, in Spanish Springs, offers help for the hard of hearing. But, take it from me, help for the hard of hearing does not come cheap!

Dancin' to the music and for the camera

The band is playing across the street in the gazebo at the Spanish Springs town square. This couple wanted to dance on the corner. I encouraged them and said I would take their photo. So, they got out there and danced, to the music and for the camera!

Lake Eustis

Most of our time in Florida has been spent in Southeast Florida - the Fort Lauderdale area. When we moved to the northern part of Central Florida we were amazed to find that the landscape is literally littered with lakes - many of them large and beautiful.

Lake Eustis which is about 20 miles northwest of Orlando, is one such. This shot was take from the waterfront of the town of Eustis which has been the focus of this blog for the past several days.
