Sunset in a window

Walking down the main street in Lake Sumter Landing one evening, Lois Anne's eye was caught by the sun setting in the window of this women's shop as well as by the reflections of buildings and lights from across the street; so she took the photo, which I think is a winner.

School's out - what to do?

We visited Deland, Florida, a small town about 55 miles southeast of Ocala, about a week ago. We'll have many more photos to show you in the days ahead, but these kids, sitting in a downtown doorway on the main drag, caught my eye. They were having a lot of aimless fun.

Lake Sumter Landing home

One of our photo bloggers asked me to post photos of some of the homes in The Villages. That's easier said than done for almost all of the residential areas are gated. This home, however, in a non-gated area, is representative of an entire section of frame houses located near the Lake Sumter Landing downtown.

Destin, Florida - Summertime

Destin offer white sand beaches and warm emerald waters. Destin is located, naturally, along Florida's Emerald Coast.

Sunset on an offshore island

The colors were extraordinary. We had taken a sunset cruise to several islands northwest of Cedar Key...this is what one shoreline looked like as the sun began to set.

A pioneer motif?

The powers-that-be in the hometown of Spanish Springs must have decided to include a few artifacts from the "good old days" for some reason. The old cart sits on the sidewalk in front of an old door and gate, which, so far as I can tell, does not open, and if it did, would lead nowhere.

But it's all kinda cute!

Pizza first, then fishing

A young lad scoffs down his pizza while his dog waits patiently on the new concrete and steel pier in Cedar Key. Other members of his family will join him soon to bait their hooks to feed the fish.

Amazingly, the dog neither begged nor made a move toward the pizza!

Meet Robert Goodlett - Landscape artist

Robert Goodlett is a Florida Landscape Artist with great talent. He is also part of the artist coop in Cedar Key which runs a small shop called the Cedar Keyhole which displays and sells the works of a variety of Florida artists - much of their work, of course, focusing on Cedar Key.

Robert, a very fine gentleman, lives in Dunnellon, Florida, just west of Ocala and drives to Cedar Key twice a week to help out in the store. The painting below is just one of a number of his artistic endeavors hanging on the walls of the Cedar Keyhole. You can obtain more information about Robert and his work at his website here.

The Uber Amazing Blog Award

We were delighted to learn that we have received the Uber Amazing Blog award from Frank at Tampa Daily Photo. (The word, uber, Frank says, is synonymous with "super.") Frank has opened my eyes with regard to Tampa, Florida, and shows it to be a vital, exciting and dynamic city! Please check out his blog.

The Uber Amazing Blog award is given to a site that:

1. Inspires you
2. Makes you smile and laugh
3. Provides amazing information
4. Is a great read
5. Has an amazing design

The rules say the award should be passed on to five other bloggers, but because I believe the award system has grown unwieldy, I am going to pass on that for the moment. Perhaps I will pass it on to one blogger in the future. I hope you understand, Frank!

Furniture store

Lake Sumter Landing's downtown area includes a furniture store that spans a couple of blocks and includes several different type buildings with different exteriors. This is one of the entrances. From what we saw, the furnishings offered are exquisite. Probably pricey, too.
